Same-O the Zebra! A Zebra All White Punky the Monkey
Same-O Same-O, a zebra all white,
Wished for some stripes every day.
He tried his best to look like the rest,
But he never could find any way!

Then Punky the Monkey tried to help,
He brought over some paint in a sack.
He put on too much, instead of a touch,
And Same-O soon found himself black!

His feet went flying as the paint was drying,
To wash in a creek by the hill.
But then he was gray when he came out to play,
And his looks gave his sisters a chill!

"Bleach will restore you!" said Philip the Boar who
Happened to be passing close by.
So Same-O tried soaking as his brothers were joking,
He gave the suggestion a try!

Same-O all black! The bleach worked in spots,
But he still had gray dots,
He looked like a horse who had freckles!
He wasn't all white,
But his tail was quite bright,
They nicknamed poor Same-O, Old Speckles!
Same-O with spots!

So Same-O stopped trying,
To himself he was sighing,
"I wish I could just be all white!
I was fine from the start,
I should have been smart,
Not having those stripes was all right!

"But now I've got freckles and the silly name Speckles,
I'll just have to live with my spots!
But down deep I'm the same, there's no one to blame,
I'm Same-O the Zebra with dots!"

And after that day, his thoughts didn't stray
His heart was at peace at long last!
And wiser he grew, through a winter, then two.
He never looked back on his past!

After time he turned white, so handsome at night,
When the moon made him seem to be glowing!
And wherever he went, good feelings he sent,
His love for all others was growing!

Till one day all knew, he was special and true,
The leader they needed so badly!
And without any stripes, he helped with their gripes,
And they followed his counsel most gladly.
